Important information on first paychecks

The new payroll schedule includes bimonthly payments to all employees starting with the first paycheck on Tuesday, July 16. The first check will be for a shorter period to include time from July 1-July 9. Learn more about your paycheck.

Employee classifications

View benefits for each of the employee classifications defined below. Read Frequently Asked Questions about integration timeline and general benefits changes.

Classified Staff: Exempt and non-exempt salaried employees whose positions are assigned to the positions within the occupational families listed in the commonwealth’s Compensation Plan and covered by the Virginia Personnel Act. Most EVMS classified staff fall here. (“Occupational families” refers to a broad grouping of jobs with similar vocational characteristics.)

Administrative and Professional (AP) Faculty: Administrative faculty perform work related to the management of the education and general activities of the institution, department or a sub-division. Most EVMS unclassified staff fall here; some non-clinical faculty fall here as well.

Administrative and Professional (AP) Medical Faculty: Employees who have administrative or professional duties directly related to the management or administration of, or patient care services in, a clinical care setting on behalf of EVMS Medical Group. Most EVMS unclassified staff and some classified staff in a clinical dept in a clinical department fall here.

Administrative and Professional (AP) Restricted Faculty: Employees who have been accepted in the Eastern Virginia Medical School Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program and have the title of Resident, Chief Resident, or Fellows.  AP Restricted Faculty receive stipends and are  subject to Graduate Medical Education Policies and Procedures.

Teaching and Research (TR) Faculty: Positions in this category have specific assignments that customarily require instruction, research, or public service as a principal activity. Examples include academic rank titles such as Professor, Associate professor, Assistant professor, Instructor, or Lecturer.

Teaching and Research (TR) Medical Faculty: Positions in this category provide patient care as a principal activity and typically also engage instruction, research, and/or public service. Examples include academic rank titles such as Professor, Associate professor, Assistant professor, Instructor, or Lecturer.
