Classified Employees are automatically enrolled in VRS as a condition of employment. Additional information can be found on the VHS Employee Portal or by logging into your myVRS account. Registration is required for first-time users.

Faculty can enroll in either the VRS Hybrid Plan or the Optional Retirement Plan. Elections must be made in your myVRS account. Additional information can be found on the VHS Employee Portal or by logging into your myVRS account. Registration is required for first-time users.

Once Faculty members make their retirement elections the next step is to confirm a sick leave plan. All faculty must complete the Faculty Leave Plan Election Form (Accessible PDF). Those enrolling in the VRS Hybrid Plan and selecting the ODU Sick Leave plan must also complete the VSDP-2 College and University Faculty Opt-Out.

Supplemental
Retirement
  • Employees can enroll in the supplemental 403(b) Plan through the NetBenefits website.
  • All Benefit Eligible Employees can enroll in the deferred compensation 457(b) Plan through the DCP website.
  • Employees may be eligible for an employer cash match to one of the supplemental retirement plans. Employees enrolled in the VRS Hybrid plan must contribute the mandatory 5% as well as the voluntary 4% (a total of 9%) in order to receive an employer cash match.
  • Roth Contributions may be set up in all supplemental plans. Ongoing

Life Insurance

All employees are enrolled in employer paid basic life insurance coverage at 2x their annual salary rounded to the nearest thousand.

Beneficiary
Designations
  • Beneficiary designations for life insurance and for the VRS Defined Benefit Plans must be made through your myVRS account.
  • Beneficiary designations for the defined contribution component of the VRS Hybrid Plan must be made via the VRS DCP Plan Website.
  • Beneficiary designations for the Optional Retirement Plan are made on the individual retirement plan provider website (either TIAA or DCP).

Long Term Care
Insurance

Employees age 65 and under enrolling in Long Term Care through Genworth are eligible for reduced underwriting with evidence of good health. Elections may be made by visiting the Genworth Website.
